Experience before you go . . .

Time to shake it up a little bit. Shelter in place....bummer, golf with buddies and then go on a Hoppin Brewery Tour.....way cool!! So on a Thursday morning in Tucson, golf balls were hit all over Skyline Golf Course, some straight, some not so straight but it's always good to get out and stretch your legs during this crazy Covid time. Eighteen holes....check, 13,000 steps...check, time to hit a local brewery...future check.

So my two Tucson Brewery Buddies, Dave and Rick and I jumped in the HBT wheels for the day and hit the road. Our first tour stop is really a retour, far from a detour....#14 on the hoppinbrewerytour.com website we have Sentinel Peak Brewing. And low and behold we had none other than Matt, one of the owners holding court at the bar and I recognized him immediately because about a year ago we split a Texas Hold'em Poker pot up at Skyline Country Club. Unfortunately it was on the Losers Table and it was only $200 but I'll put a $100 bill in my pocket any day and the word Losers isn't in either of our vocabularies!! It was great seeing him! I love seeing success and since our first visit on 2/1/2017, owners Matt, Jeremy and Taylor ave opened another location at 9155 E. Tanque Verde Rd here in Tucson and also a designated separate location for production. So after some Sentinel Peak brew tasting along with some pulled pork and nachos we said our adioses. Brew-on guys and all good things to you in the future!!

Next tour stop, MotoSonora Brewing for a 3:00 opening. Having never been there before we had the normal uncertainty, "you sure this is the right way", "you might want to slow down because we're going to get there early", "are 2 eggs over easy enough to sustain you until lunch or should you have 3"! Siri says that Moto is right down here on the left so we venture on and boom, MotoSonora Brewing is front and center. Very limited parking in the front of the building which looks a little bit like a fortress....4-5 spaces and a very cool painted mural with a scorpion and a lizard driving a Porsche....first of many motor car references (Wow, did he just do two sets of dot.dot.dot. in one sentence....yes he did)....one of the benefits of having your own blog...if indeed that is what this is... Alright enough messing around, let's get serious...lol. Okay, after the patented front sign selfie with appropriate virus mask protection in place we head for the door. Once in we notice 6' social distancing in action. The bar to the left is where you order your beers but don't even think about sitting because there are no bar stools. To your right we have appropriately distanced hi-top tables and chairs. A little farther in and on the left is a hallway leading right to the production area which is pretty darn big....no small batch microbrewery here with definite expansion plans in the future. Now tucked in the elbow and expanding outward of the "L" shaped building is a large outdoor area with picnic tables, umbrellas, wood barrels and I'm sure more fun stuff as time goes on. So the layout of the MotoSonora Brewery is well thought out and has a nice vibe!! The three Tucson amigos ordered three flights and Franklin and Brooke behind the bar had sparks flying off their hands organizing and filling our flights. Once poured we settled in on one of the hi-tops and got comfy to enjoy our brews.

Some of the beers tasted were Racing Slicks - Dry Irish Stout (4.2%), OverSteer - Double IPA (8.9%), Brooklands - Brown Ale (5.5%), Foglights Seattle Style - IPA (6.9%), Victory or Death IPA (6.7%) and Roads of Bones - Imperial Stout (10.2%). From the overall option that day of Golfing Buddies at large all the craft beers were obviously refreshing, refined, flavorful and distinctive within their brewing class. We all agreed that MotoSonora all though very new to the brewery industry, their beers tasted as if they'd been brewing for years.

Until next time and remember.....

Go get'cha one!!!
