Experience before you go . . .
It's May, many states have canceled the mandatory mask law. Kat and I decided two months ago to plan a Utah road trip which included a stop in Page Arizona for some Striper fishing and kayaking to Antelope Canyon on Lake Powell. And once in Utah we hiked Bryce Canyon, Escalante and Zion National Park. Kat and I are both 60+ and neither of us had ever been to these absolutely beautiful parts of the country. I could write a short story on each one of these locations but since this is a brewery tour I'll refocus and just say that if you haven't seen these places you need to put them as a bucket list item and get her done.
So it was the 11th day of our 13 day adventure and it was our fifth day, not consecutive but all pretty close together, of hiking 10 to 12 miles. The knees, the ankles, the hips were all kind of beyond the two ibuprofen in the morning stage so in our second to last day of returning home we limped into the Zion Brewery with 100 of our closest hiking friends and got in line to order a beer. Did you sense that Zion was busy and overcrowded! Well you're right, Zion's hiking trails and the national park was busting at the seams which was kind of hard in the hiking category because you had to let people go by you and stop for people coming down. But it was even tough in the brewery because there were 15 people in front of me to order a beer. Now I had only one Hoppin Brewery Tour card left, and I probably should've saved it because once giving it to the bartender, she nodded her head smiled and said "That's nice", put it on the cash register and kept pouring my beer. Looking at the extremely overcrowded tap room with people staring at her wondering if they're ever going to get their first beer let alone their second beer. I ordered an Echo Canyon IPA - IPA (69 IBU) Orange lemon grapefruit and malty and Kat went with the Ascender Hefeweizen (14 IBU) hazy German wheat beer, bready, banana flavor with a touch of clove at the finish.
We took our beers and walked outside around to the side of the brewery where there were hi-top tables, some with chairs some without. We confiscated one without chairs, set down our beers and we were very happy to be not hiking.
Zion Brewery has a captive audience being inside the National Park and also being the only brewery! In the small business world that's what we call a slam dunk!
So while hiking through the beauty of Zion just keep in mind that there's a cold craft beer waiting for you when you're done!!
Until next time and remember.....
Go get'cha one!!!
