1912 Brewing Company, 2045 N. Forbes Blvd Suite #105, Tucson, AZ. 85745. #520-256-4851
Experience before you go . . .
Okay so we had a little downtime in Tucson and my son Jake and I wanted to stretch our legs and go tour a brewery so we did. I've toured a lot of breweries in Tucson and according to my notes the only one I hadn't toured was 1912 Brewing. The drive over was somewhat uneventful except for the Father/Son jabber of "How's the job going", "When do you think you'll be moving out" and "Have you ever thought about living off the grid in the middle of the mountains". And the answers were, "Good", "Soon" and "Yeahhhh, is the Pope catholic"!! Hold on a second, Siri says we've arrived as we were driving around in circles for about 5 minutes and I finally stopped at the far end of the strip mall, I drove another 10 feet and looked up and there we were.....1912 Brewing!! Yes sir re Bob, who's Bob? We parked, got out and snapped the front sign selfie and in we went!
It was a little dark inside but in Tucson in June everything is a little dark! Our eyes adjust and I sense an industrial chic kinda vibe as we make our way through some tables and chairs and veer to the left towards the bar where Linden behind the bar greets us with a smile and a "what can I get you to drink"? I decided to put one of our new Hoppin Brewery Tour cards to work as I slide one towards her.....10 second elevator speech and bing bang boom, the HBT strikes again for the 107th time. Jake and I both put an order in for a flight of 1912's finest. Mine settling in around the IPA area and Jake's centered in the sour, cider focus. Now betwixt the two of us we tried 10 different craft beers....this is my kinda tour stop!!! My line up started with Overcome - IPA (6.9%, 45 IBU) hazy, hoppy with a dank finish; Prickly Pear - Margarita Gose (9%, 7 IBU) high alcohol, low bitter and smooth; TA Weno - Mexican Amber (5.1%, 15 IBU) delicate and tasty; Ride of the Valkyries - Pale Ale (6%, 35 IBU); Chesty's Besties - Cider, Pear, Strawberry, Sour Cherry, Pineapple, Blueberry Sour (7%, 9 IBU) just had to cut and paste 1912's description of this beauty because it's named after a decorated Marine, "This fruit smorgasbord uses our house culture, pear, strawberry, sour cherry, tangerine, pineapple, and blueberry, special Veteran collaboration with our friends at Cider Corps, this beer is named after Chesty Puller, the most decorated Marine ever, it is a sour beer version of Cider Corps' Fruit Salad Cider." How cool is that! And ending with Weapons Check - Irish Red Ale (4.7%, 18 IBU) caramel malt, biscuit, & spice from the traditional English hops, dry finish. Now that was just my flight! Jake's started with Cider Corps P.O.G. - Passion fruit Orange Guava Cider (7%) sweet just like my wife Kat; Sangin Sangria Cider - Red Sangria Cider (6.8%) prickly pear, strawberry, elderberry, orange, passion fruit, lime; and finally Blueberry Pie - Pie Gose (5.4%, 11 IBU) just like momma used to make!
1912 was named after the year Arizona became a state! The owners Allan and Alicia started home brewing as a hobby which blossomed into a full scale, full passion, full time business! There's a real focus on making refined, drink friendly beers with a variety not often seen at many breweries. 1912's collaboration efforts shows a real sense of community and playing well in the brewery sandbox which I feel is essential for success!! Didn’t get a chance to meet Allan and Alicia but from Linden’s great attitude, the smiles from other customers and the laid back overall feel to 1912 I can definitely see they'll continue brewing into the unforeseeable future!!
Until next time and remember.....
Go get'cha one!!!
