Experience before you go . . .

Well the temps are getting into the 100's in the desert of Tucson so it's time to get out of town. My wife Kat & I love to road trip even with gas prices at an all time high. We just don't eat as many cannolis between fill ups which saves us money so we have more cash to put into the tank....so to speak! Actually we retired comfortably so a dollar here or a dollar there hopefully doesn't throw us off our long term plan. But I'm going soap box it for second here! Inflation is kicking everyone's butt!!! I figure with last year's 15-20 percent real number inflation and the market down almost 20 percent my purchasing power decreased by 35-40 percent, that means my $100 only buys 60 percent of what it could little over a year ago. It's a little scary people!! Alright, enough of that!!

Okay temps are high so we decided to go where the temps are higher, not the best plan but we have dear friends, Scott & Deborah bought a place by Palm Springs and we had yet to visit them so the plans were laid to head west on I-10 through Phoenix and straight on to California....."It's the place you outta be"!! We had a ball!! We golfed, we ate, we drank, we laughed and not necessarily in that order! We even slipped in a matinee and saw the new Top Gun and boy howdy was it good!! Cruise is on and the jets were fast, rrrreal fast!! But the last full day there was a break in the action and the ladies wanted to doing some shopping so Scottie and I decided to do a little Hoppin Brewery Touring at one maybe two local breweries. Now some of our platinum members know that we've been to 19 states and to date 126 breweries but California has eluded us until now!! I know crazy isn't it!! California has more than 1100 breweries.....yowzer that's a lot of brews!!! So today is the day the HBT ventured into the Golden State to taste some golden beers!!

Coachella Valley, is an arid Rift Valley in the Colorado Desert of Southern California's Riverside County, the valley may also be referred to as Greater Palm Springs due to the prominence of the city of Palm Springs. Daily geology lesson right here on the Hoppin Brewery Tour....Rift Valley is a linear shaped lowland between several highlands or mountain ranges created by the action of a geologic rift. Rifts are formed as a result of the pulling apart of the lithosphere due to extensional tectonics!! There you have it!! You feel smarter now don't you!! So because of all this pulling and shifting and filling this valley has become one prime real estate location and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, a federally recognized tribe owns all of it. They've lived here for more than 3000 years, so folks we are the visitors! Here at the Hoppin Brewery Tour we always try to do a little edgamacating and if it's not about beer it about other stuff that's way important!

Coachella Valley Brewery is real easy to find, we got a fabulous parking spot and did the front sign selfie shuffle and in we went! Once in you turn left and go by a couple hi tops with chairs and straight ahead is the bar with Dacoda beer tending, smiling and taking beer orders. Come to find out Dacoda is a stand up comedian on the side and I was waiting for his Rodney Dangerfield impersonation, "My wife and I were happy for twenty years, then we met", "One night I came home. I figured, let my wife come on. I'll play it cool. Let her make the first move. She went to Florida", okay one more......"I asked my old man if I could go ice-skating on the lake. He told me, Wait til it gets warmer".......got to love Rodney!!! So Scottie ordered a Desert Citrus - California Wheat Ale with tangerine (5.0%) crisp, clean and refreshing. I ordered up a Hazy - New England IPA (7.1%) notes of orange, grapefruit, mango, and peach, a bit of pine and zesty lemon. Coachella has been in the Valley since 2013 and have always been experimental! With 20+ taps there's something for everyone.

Over at the hi top we have two guys and a gal.....sounds like a Broadway Play. Come to find out they're Canadians on a road trip south through California and low and behold they love their craft beer! Holly was a Government Communications expert, Don was an Oil & Gas guy and Adam was a Restaurateur. We talked about beer, Canada and road tripping. They were young, full of energy and fun!! And I think I heard them only end one sentence with a "eh"!! Great meeting you young Canadians and Godspeed!

Scottie and I enjoyed the Coachella Brewing hospitality! The Taproom was well laid out, clean and a wide variety of brews. From the looks of it they even have live acoustic entertainment every now and then. When in the Valley check out Coachella!! And keep an eye on Dacoda, you might just see him on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Until next time and remember......

Go get'cha one!!
