Experience before you go . . .

I know in past write ups I've talked about the summers in Tucson, Arizona. Although they are beautiful with the blue skies, the desert flora and fauna and the 105-110 degree temperatures...wait did I just say the extreme high heat was beautiful? Let me take that back, that's the reason so many folks head north for the cooler temperatures and that's exactly what we did! Of course there was a family wedding on the calendar up in the Chicago area so we wrapped that in with a side trip up to Door County to visit friends. Egg Harbor to be exact, not the breakfast place but a little Lake Michigan shoreline community that is absolutely beautiful, quaint and very welcoming. Our friends Paul & Barbara greeted us with open arms as we prepared for 2-3 days of jaw dropping sunsets, fabulous food, shopping, hiking, golfing and just chill time with good friends!!!

Of course in the middle of all this fun and on a beautiful sunny afternoon strolling and shopping the streets of Baileys Harbor, Paul and I moseyed over to Door County Brewing Co. for a midday brew! As their website says, "We're a craft brewery located in Baileys Harbor, WI on the Door Peninsula, established in 2012. We value family, friendships and community above all else and create one-of-a-kind craft beers to bring these all together". Now for a Thursday in Bailey's Harbor the place was hoppin!! Right on the main drag heading through town they’ve created a local gathering spot with great beer, great food and sprinkle in some local live music and you gotta winning combination!!!

Paul and I head up to the beer ordering spot where you pick a winner then you go get'cha a table. This concept is becoming very popular because you take out the server so you're saving money and it's more customer friendly because you're not having to fork out 20% tip on top of the whole experience. Fabulous concept...I like it!!! So I go with the VacationLand - IPA (6.2 on the Richter scale)...that's HoppinBreweryTour version of ABV (Alcohol By Volume). I can't say it any better then what's printed on the back of the Vacationland IPA can..."Our beautiful peninsula, known as the Cape Cod of the Midwest, has been a destination since National Geographic introduced the world to its unique and charming beauty in the 1960's, this IPA is as distinctive and delightful as our home, brewed with oats and wheat, then generously hopped to create an In-Your-Face aroma and flavor, it finishes with minimal bitterness and a cheamy mouthfeel, we hope you enjoy exploring our Vancationland"!!! Why mess with perfection!!!

Now I'm thinking Paul, being a dark beer guy ordered the Polka King - Porter (5.3%) This dark brown porter is brewed with pale chocolate malts and English hops. It's a malty beer with notes of roasted chocolate and caramel-the perfect stepping stone for those looking to venture into the realm of darker beers...and at Paul's young age he's been venturing for quite some time now. The brews were just what the doctor ordered, you know what they say everything in moderation, and we had a pretzel to go along with it.

It wasn't long until the ladies showed up to rescue us from multiple beers and even a longer afternoon nap. So we packed up and shuffled out the door. DCBC is the bomb!! A must stop during your stay in Vacation Land!!

Until next time and remember...

Go get’cha one!!!!!
