Experience before you go . . .
Two Rivers, Wisconsin, who would a thunk? Little town with 11,271 folks claiming to be the birthplace of the ice cream sundae (though other cities, such as Ithaca, NY make the same claim). The city's advertising slogan is "Catch our friendly waves" as it is located along Lake Michigan. We were captivated by this charming little town even before we started our long weekend in an Airbnb the first part of September. What, it's on Lake Michigan, north of Sheboygan, east of Green Bay (Home of the Packer)...let's go!! And go we did! At first it seemed a little sleepy! Modest small homes, one after another mostly built in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Main Street has a family owned Department Store called Schroeder's that opened up in 1891 and Lookie here...a Starbucks under construction. We're looking at the old and new! There's something about this place. They have a Piggly Wiggly, up the road is Son of Skaliwags and there's Cool City Brewing.
Two Rivers is nicknamed the Cool City because it lies within the humid continental climate zone modified by close proximity to Lake Michigan. This gives the city more moderate temperatures and lesser extremes compared to its inland counterparts so what a fabulous name for a brewery. Cool City is a casual brewpub with a fireplace dishing up pub fare including popular sliders and cheese curds, plus coffee and cocktails. The owners took over the Wells Fargo Bank building that went vacant in 2018 and with revitalization efforts of the Two Rivers downtown area in mind Cool City rose from the dusty deposit slips to be the community hot spot it is today. Kat's brother John and his wife Rose were with us in Two Rivers so the four of us took Cool City Brewing by storm.
After the front sign selfie we enter the vestibule where there's an old bank safe on display, gotta put your hands on it, then one more door and we're in! Very nice!! Bank industrial chic with a clean friendly feel. Tables, hi tops, low tops, bar straight ahead, kitchen behind that, outdoor eating to the left. It's such a nice nite we head for the outdoors and find a table for four. Boom, Hoppinbrewerytour stikes again here in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Of course we ordered a Wisconsin Cheese
Curd Flight to start out with along with some Barley Pops. Between the four of us we ordered the West Twin IPA - American IPA (6.9%), Can I Get a HELL Yes - Helle Lager (5.0%), Wrastlin Shirts and Cutoff Shorts - American Pale Ale (5.2%) and the Ball Chaser - Blonde (4.4%). First of all we loved the names and the beers were pretty darn great too!! Curds and beers...gotta luv Wisconsin!!!
Kat and I loved our stay in Two Rivers so much we made an impulse buy, kinda like going through the check out at the grocery store. Let's get that Enquirer, a Baby Ruth bar, some Juicy Fruit gum and how bout the 1900 sq. ft., 2-story lake cottage!!
Cool City Brewery is just what the town needed!! A gathering place with good food, good beer and good people!!!
Until next time and remember...
Go get'cha one!!!!!!
