Tour Stop 22 - Tombstone Brewing Company - 4/4/2017
Tombstone Brewing Company, 107 Toughnut St., Tombstone, AZ Experience before you go............
Well since I was with my older brother Larry and his life long friend Tim, Toughnut street in Tombstone, Arizona was calling our names. The plan was in place! Larry and his wife Connie were in for a visit and Tim and his wife Pam came down from Phoenix and we were set to drive to Bisbee, with a short stop in Tombstone. On our Stagecoach a few miles outside of Tombstone we come up on a couple Cowpokes riding northwest to Yuma and they give us the scuttlebutt. Sheriff Wyatt Earp is right as a trivet and is cleaning up Tombstone! All the silver was making the town flush and loco at the same time. The hoosegow was filling up with all the mudstills and deadbeats. They also told us that Tombstone is as hot as a whorehouse on nickel night and if we wanted to quench our thirst and get all roostered up that there's a new saloon in town that actually makes their own beer. Did someone say beer!!
Tombstone, the town that's too tough to die!! As we turn left on Toughnut Street, there it was....Tombstone Brewing Company. The "Now Open" sign and the American flag hung proudly over the front porch and I catch a happy patron and his wife leaving and with a big smile on his face he says, "you gotta try the Norwegian Farmhouse IPA". We snap the out front signage selfie and head for the swinging doors. As we carry ourselves over the threshold all heads turn to see who the new strangers in town were....the head turning tradition still strong since the 1880's. Very nice space, tall raftered ceiling, large high top seating front and center, production behind that and the bar to the right. We head to the bar, some faster than others. My brother's buddy Tim is a very cautious walker and a medical miracle as well. Tim's had 2 replacement hips, 2 knees, 2 shoulders, ruptured C-1 with plate in head, left arm staff infection where he about lost his arm, left thigh gapping wound scar from over active chain saw and I'm sure there's some more wounds that Tim just didn't want to talk about. A curious grandson measured 62 inches of sutures, live long and carry on my friend.
We all situate ourselves around the bar. Bartender and all around point guard Lincoln from Ontario, Canada points to Weedy from Alabama the Master Brewer and I introduce the gang. I hand Lincoln a promotion card and boom Hoppin Brewery Tour strikes again down here in Wyatt Earp country in the town that just won't die. Larry and Tim are on it and are served up a couple cold pints. Larry goes with the new, right out of the tanks Norwegian Farmhouse IPA (6.5%) brewed with kveik yeast passed down for generations in Norway, crisp, refreshing and bursting with grapefruit, lime and orange peel.....got to love the fjords and the Norwegians! Tim tackles the Imperial Stout with Piloncillo (10.5%) roasty, thick and rich...very nice! I order up a Tombstone flight starting with the Cascade Single Hop Pale Ale (5.7%) hazy, juicy and off the charts hoppy with a surprise dank finish that will knock your cowboy boots off...my kind of beer. Next we have a boat trip down the fjords with the Farmhouse IPA followed with the English Premium Ale (4.2%) malty, biscuity with hints of caramel with pleasant supporting bitterness. And last but not least the brew that Tim had the Imperial Stout.....very smooth.
To my right we have Bryan, or Irish as his friends call him. Irish got his Tower Crain Operators License at the ripe age of 19 and worked building a lot of the skyscrapers in downtown Chicago for 32 years. I asked Irish if he was afraid of heights.....he said NO!! Irish had just recently retired and now get this......Irish had just finished driving the entire Route 66 by himself (Chicago to Los Angeles, 2,451 total miles, Bucket List Item). And Irish was on his way back to Chicago through Dallas/Fort Worth to visit an old friend. God speed Irish, great meeting and talking with ya and I hope our paths cross again!
Well if you ever ride through Tombstone, Arizona and you want to dust off your chaps, wet your whistle and sit a spell you gotta stop at Tombstone Brewing Company! Say hey to Lincoln and Weedy and taste some of their fabulous brews.
Best of luck to you guys and keep on brewing on!!
Until next time and remember.........
Go get'cha one!!
