12/8/2017 Four Corners Brewing Co. 1311 S. Ervay St. Dallas, TX 75215 phone: 214-748-2739
website: FCBrewing.com Experience before you go . . .
Our walking journey to Four Corners Brewing started with a meander down Malcolm X Boulevard, staying together as a group, taking in the sites and only getting lost once. Walking under a major freeway is always interesting, through a homeless community and then over a major freeway......if our wives could see us now!! "It's got to be down here on the right". What'd we do before google maps as we round a corner and see the words Taproom from a distance as a sense of relief passes over the group. Front door sign selfie and we hit the door.
Big, and no one to be seen, except for Anissya and Phillip behind the bar gearing up for the Friday crowd. To the right we have a major collection of 75+ full sized eclectic lamps hanging upside down from the 17 foot ceiling. Every one different and every one cooler than its neighbor, which means it's way cool....never seen anything like it and probably won't ever again. Straight ahead tables and chairs, center left very cool bar and behind the bar is production separated by glass. We take over the bar and Anissya is more then happy to help. Out comes the HBT card with introductions all around and Bing bang boom the Hoppin Brewery Tour strikes for the second time on this beautiful Friday afternoon. Lar and Zac order up the El Chingon, which means Bad Ass - IPA (7.8%, 72 IBU) hops on overtime with a touch of rebel. Guy, being the dark beer guy in the group, gets a Notorious O.A.T. - Oatmeal Stout (7.1%, 38 IBU) silky flow of roasty coffee, bitter chocolate and malty sweetness...so fine! I ask Anissya, who by the why was as sweet as pecan pie al a mode, for the Four Corners Flight and she got busy rinsing and pouring. Of course in the mix I get the El Chingon and the Notorious but she also pours the Local Buzz - Honey Rye Golden Ale (5.4%, 20 IBU) local honey and refreshingly crisp, get your buzz on......don't mind if a do!! Next was the Heart of Texas - Red Ale (6.3%, 35 IBU) dry hopped Amber with some Texas charm. Also thrown into the lineup was a one-off Home Brew and a very unique El Oso.
Up walks a guy wearing safety glasses and it was Steve one of the owners. He told us they expanded to this huge location 8 months ago. The building used to be the main stables for the Ambassador Hotel. We're talking horse and carriage folks. The hotel was built in 1904 and has had quite a history. There's even a speakeasy underground hidden tunnel passage between the stables and the hotel....if these walls could talk you'd hear American Presidents, Dallas Mafia and Hollywood celebrities.
The more breweries I visit the more I realize how fluid this industry is...no pun intended! A lot of expansion, collaboration and chasing the American Dream!! And with the recent tax relief for small businesses I believe we'll see a whole bunch more!!
Well as I looked down the bar at my three compadres, all at different stages of enjoying Four Corners craft brews and each other's company. I say, "How bout we finish up and head to our next stop"? Pull out my trusty phone, tap the AroundMe app and up pops Community Beer Company. Cut and paste the address to my Uber app, Bob will be here in 4 minutes. Got to love Brother Larry, who's a flip phone guy and who's head is spinning from what just happened...."Who's Bob"?
Good luck with the fabulous new location Four Corners.....build it and they will come!!! We pay our bill, say our good byes to Anissya, leave her a nice tip and head to the door.
Up drives Bob, we pile in and the adventure continues!!!
Until next time and remember.........
Go get'cha one!!
