Experience before you go . . .

Well Shelley was right, Neo Olivella's had some good pizza! But some of the fun we had was waiting for the table. Lady Gaga was performing up the street at the American Airline Center and it seemed like everyone eating pizza at Neo's had tickets except for us. There was a mother/daughter duo that wanted to join us on the next Hoppin Brewery Tour, and another group of five, three of which were competing in the Lady Gaga look-alike contest with a slim chance of winning. I started thinking we need to scalp some tickets and try to get on stage with the Lady but didn't have any takers. Okay, refueling done, time to move on.

Braindead Brewery was an appropriate fourth tour stop so I plugged the Main Street address in Uber and Cynthia replied in 4-minutes and a Mazda, similar to the movie 4-Weddings and a Funeral and we're good to go. The ride to Braindead was somewhat uneventful, other than Cynthia telling us she wrecked her car earlier in the day, her being a single mom and losing her brother 2 months ago kinda made you want to empty your wallet in her lap.....which was the whole idea, not that I'm old and cynical or anything. Cynthia pulled up, we piled out, I gave her a great tip and there it was....Braindead Brewery in it's full regalia. Funny thing was it didn't look dead to me, actually the place was Hoppin but of course it's Friday night in downtown Dallas.

Out front selfie and the 4th one of the night....oh boy! In we went and there wasn't an empty chair in the place. The four of us kinda dissipated in different directions....restroom, beer time and I did a quick nickel back tour. This place has a great layout. As you first come in you have tables/chairs which lead up to the bar. Cool thing is all the beer taps are connected to 1950's style refrigerators coming out of the wall. To right of the bar there's a guy on an acoustical guitar singing away...very nice.

We all circled back and ended up hangin at a hi-top close to the bar. Lar was already well into a Sticklebract IPA - Smash American IPA (6.7%, 77 IBU) citrus, pine and grapefruit. Guy was drinking some Glass of Ice Water - Dallas Best (0%, 0 IBU) smart!! Zac tackled the Darth Lambicus - Belgian Dark Strong with Brettanomyces & Cherries (9.3%, 31 IBU) tart, cherry, oak with some funk. I made my way to the bar with some "Excuse me", "Pardon me" and "I'm just trying to get a beer". Once there Aaron was on me like a bartender on a daily quota. Out came the HBT card and my 5-second elevator speech and Bing Bang Boom, Hoppin Brewery Tour strikes again!! I went light with the Gritz - Pre Prohibition Style Cream Ale (4.4%, 23 IBU) sessionable, light, grainy body beer.

Back at the table you could definitely tell the long day was taking its toll but being old school and knowing we were on the cusp of something great, we all starting picking up some steam. At the table we have Chad of TX Beer Flower Co, hydroponically grown hops. And people don't think you can grow hops in Texas.....don't you know everything grows bigger and better in Texas!!

It was getting late and I let out the battle cry, "Can we do one more"? Well I didn't get a real enthusiastic response but there was Peticolas Brewing Co. a couple miles away so I entered the address and Uber Scott was 3 minutes out.

BrainDead has it going on! Obliviously a neighborhood favorite with some great beers and a very welcoming feel to the whole place. BrainDeaders Unite!!!

Until next time and remember.........

Go get'cha one!!
