Experience before you go . . .

Well we didn't lose anybody to Captain Sleep on the Uber drive over to Peticolas Brewing but it was a little quiet in the back seat. Quick glance, expecting the scene from Trains, Planes and Automobiles with Steve Martin and John Candy on the commercial flight with Martin in the middle seat and Candy and another old guy both fast a sleep with their heads on both shoulders of Martin....priceless!

Uber Johnny pulls up in front of Peticolas and we pile out. Front sign selfie and in we go. Place has kind of the end of night feel. Up to the bar we go and connect with Ryan (AKA...Chris) who we come to find out loves the brewery just like one of the owners. I hand him a HBT card and start my sales pitch and before I can finish, he tells us, "Sorry but we're closing up for the night". As if the four of really needed anymore beers, needed being the key word here. We kinda wanted one more beer, wanted being the key word here. Ryan looking across the bar at four pairs of puppy dog eyes, tired ones at that. Ryan saids, "I've already shut off the tappers, but we're having a private Holiday Party in the adjacent room and maybe we can get'cha some samples from those tappers". "Did somebody say beer"? In went one of Ryan's employees and two minutes later he came out with six samples of their finest brews. Hoppin Brewery Tour strikes again!!

Let's have a sample party! First up was Golden Opportunity - Kolsch (4.6%, 27 IBU) medium bodied with a light, pleasant malt aroma with a hint of sweetness and faint bitterness. Next we have Great Scot - Scottish Ale (6.8%, 24 IBU) nutty, soft and chewy character with low levels of peaty/smokey with a dry finish....nummy! Following closely behind we have Sit Down or I'll Sit You Down - Imperial IPA (10%, 90 IBU) dry hopped, high, fresh, lively, full mouthfeel, bitter but not harsh with high floral ester.....we all sat as we tasted! Next up we have Rye't On - Rye Pale Ale ( 6.0% 26 IBU) smooth and balanced. Keeping up with his buddies we have Wintervention - Strong Spiced Winter Ale (10%, 45 IBU) nutmeg, allspice, ginger with English hops and high quality malts...kinda makes you want to build a snowman. And last but obliviously not least we have Peticolas's Patron Saint....Velvet Hammer - Imperial Red Ale (9%, 85 IBU) ruby reddish brown, malt forward with caramel, brown sugar, floral hops with noticeably alcohol bite...think I'll have another!

As we finish up its definitely time to head to the house. Ryan is wiping everything down, Zac and Guying are play ping pong in the upstairs loft with Lar, all set to play the winner, I'm on my Uber app getting us a ride to Southlake. What, I notice I only have 1% charge on my phone.....what'd I ever do in my 20's, 30's, 40's and mostly 50's when I didn't have an iPhone? I walked, called a friend, brought a friend, made a friend or hitchhiked....that was a long, long time ago! Just like the Star Wars opening crawl.....a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away!!

"Ryan, you got an iPhone charger back there"? "No, try the back room or the private party"? Stuck my head through a door that looked like a back room, lights off...I think I saw a mop. Heading to the main door where I knew the party was going on. What we had was mobile party bar to my left with some late night holiday office party personalities kicking into high gear. iPhone charger behind the bar located with some light conversation with the two very nice young ladies pouring the beers. Perusing the crowd we have the office babe taking on all comers with conversation with a half circle of six office eligible bachelors, shy office guy with liquid courage on the dance floor and a small sprinkling of tipsy, bored spouses sitting on the outskirts....got to luv office parties.

Twenty minute charge and I go back out through the doors and I see my three brewery compadres, all with a look of panic! "Where were you, we've been looking for you"! "Sorry, sorry, I had to check out the office party"!

Uber Baron pulled up, we poured ourselves into his car and off we went right into Hoppin Brewery Tour archives with December 8, 2017......a day that will go down infamy!

Until next time and remember.........

Go get'cha one!!
