Well Brad and I were getting pretty thirsty because it had been 2 1/2 months since the last tour.......yeah right!!! Obviously Brad and I have a beer every now and then when we're not sitting next to each other at some way cool brewpub. But long story short, my wife Kat and I have a place in Tucson and we were out there loving life for 5-6 weeks so the Brad & Clyde's Hoppin Brewery Tour was on vacation, stacation, brewcation........whatever it was on, it wasn't doing what it does best and that's touring breweries!!! So anyhow we had some catching up to do!
Okay, this brewery tour stop has kind of a funny story. About 3 months earlier we tried to tour this brewery for lunch but found out that they open up at 3:00. So we went to the Tommy Nevin's Pub right up the street from the Nevin's Brewing Company and had lunch. Granted we had the Nevin's craft brews and on the day we went it was all you can eat wings so it was quite the combo. Not a lot of talking, but we managed to put down a dozen wings each and we washed it all down with some mighty fine brews. But staying true to our craft, this was not the brewery!!! So here we were, coming back to the actual brewpub to to do it all over again......you got to love touring breweries!! Because every time it's an adventure!!!
So this time I picked Brad up in my sweet ride, 2007 Lexus LS460 that I bought in Arizona and just a week earlier my wife and I had driven 1800 miles in it to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas in Naperville with our son and extended family. This is a beautiful car and it's big with lots of leg room and it just floats down the road so I thought Brad would be one comfy dude. Well I was right and we floated to Nevin's Brewing Company, navigated the front door, were greeted by a couple friendly young ladies and we positioned ourselves on the far side of rectangular bar. Nice feel, dark wood, ample HD screens and a lot of craft beer pulls lining the bar right in front of us.......yeah buddy!!
By the looks of it, between the greeters, wait staff and our bartender we were the only guys in this brewery!! I'm not sure if the shite eating grins on our faces indicated this or not but I sure like to think so. So we both started perusing the beer selections and once again our bartender came out with the infamous beer flight!! Now I had just recently driven 1800 miles so any mention of a flight and I was all ears!!
The Nevin's flight had a good mix starting out with the Hook & Hatchet Lager (5.0%) a cooper hued, pretzels, malty with a hint of caramel. Next was our friendly bartenders favorite, Nevin's Red in the Face (7.2%) where caramel malts play and the use of mosaic and chinook hops deliver a beer that will leave you red in the face. Of course on the flight and sharing an armrest we have the Nevin's IPA (6.5%) fermented at cooler temps with huge amounts of oats to give it a creamy head and extra body. Finishing out the enjoyable flight we have the Nevin's Biz In The Front Party In The Bock (6.1%) biscuit and bready malt, amped up with some new generation German hops and we taxied right into the gate red faced and smiling ear to ear!!! With all this flying Brad and I are doing we're starting to rack up some frequent flyers miles so one of these tours we'll need to plan a vacation. Wonder how the breweries stack up in............Arizona???
We had a throughly good time at the Nevin's Brewing Company! Check out their website because they have a stage with live music every now and then and from the looks of the pictures it looks like a party to me.
Until next time and remember......
Go get'cha one!!!!
