Experience before you go . . .

Alright, gather around and I'll tell ya what we got. My best friend and wife of 32 years flies to Naperville to check on all the moving parts up there to make sure they're all good. I'm hangin in Tucson with my dog Darby for 9 days. Am I going to binge watch the Sopranos on prime, visit the liquor cabinet and beer fridge way too many times and order Mexican food take-out every other night? Or am I going to invite three buddies I've known since 9th grade who live in Baraboo, Wisconsin where it's literally 12 degree below zero to come down and thaw out, play some golf and have fun in the sun? You guessed it, Sopranos here I come......I don't think soooooo!! So late on a Wednesday night, after 12 hours, 2 stops and some added drama on the plane that we won't talk about, my buddies Karll, Steiny and Robbie land in Tucson ready to take on the warm. We golfed, and golfed and then we golfed but then we ate, and laughed, and carried on and acted half our age and actually stayed out of trouble and believe it or not, didn't get arrested.....it was a fabulous time had by all. So of course on the second to the last day I just had to sneak in a Hoppin Brewery Tour....yeah buddy!!

On the radar we had Copper Mine Brewing Company, part of the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild. Driving with the windows down the satellite radio pumping out Classic Vinyl we pull into the parking lot. I see the permanent Copper Mine sign and the temporary vinyl "Now Open" sign hangin for all to see. I gather the boys for the front sign selfie with a couple grunts and moans but we manage and then we head for the door. We maneuver through some tables and chairs on our way to the bar located in the back. Not a real busy day at the brewery so we claim four bar stools and get comfy as I'm pulling an HBT bidness card out of my wallet to hand over to the gentleman behind the bar. Matt's his name and pouring beer is his game! Copper Mine had been open for a year, they've won some awards, they've got some regulars and the brewery's got a nice feel to it. Matt starts pouring beers and between the four of us we manage to taste all that Copper Mine had to offer that day. Of course I had Matt set me up a Copper Mine fight starting with Irish Red - Ale (5.7%, 25 IBU) voted the best flagship beer in Tucson, well balanced with malty caramel undertones. Following right behind we have Hibiscus Blonde - Traditional Blonde (5.5%, 24 IBU) refreshing with added hibiscus tea leaves and agave nectar, perfect for those hot summer days. Next up is Detonator IPA - East Coast IPA (6.8%, 75 IBU) well balanced moderately hopped with Simcoe, Sterling and Zythos hops, finishes smooth and goes down easy. Last up we have Imperial Brown - English Brown Ale (7.2%, 37 IBU) generous amount of roasted barley and other specialty malts offer up a rich, complex flavor with hints of biscuit, chocolate and molasses.

When you've known someone since 9th grade and every one of you has already hit 60 or you're staring it right in the face, there's a few things you have in common to talk about. So needless to say the conversation was flowing as smoothly as the fabulous Copper Mine beers.

If you're in Tucson check out the new Copper Mine Brewing Company! Matt will make sure you leave with a smile on your face and a plan to return in the near future.

Until next time and remember.........

Go get'cha one!!
