Experience before you go . . .

What a treat, our son Jake slips away from the frozen tundra of the Midwest and comes down for a visit. He puts in 40-50 hours a week in the Receiving Dept. at Menards Building Supply. Works the forklift unloading trucks, likes his fellow work mates and basically loves what he does. But he works the 2nd shift (1:00-11:00 which is store close) and every weekend so kinda hard to break free and head to Tucson for 4-5 days. But we made it work and it was the best visit ever. We golfed as a family and set a course record for highest score, we grilled, we hiked and we just hung out and enjoyed each other's company.

But one of the days, I looked at Jake, he looked at me, I mentioned brewery tour and within 5 minutes we were in old Blue heading to our first stop......Ten Fifty-Five Brewing off of 44th street. Top down, Waylon Jennings cassette playing Ramblin' Man on volume 8, sun shining, father & son outing......doesn't get any better than this.

Half way there we both realize we were a little hungry so we pop into Wings & Rice on Pima. This stop is very special to me because it was my first senior discount.....OMGBG! Can't believe it, what happened to the last 25 years ! Both refueled, we continue our trek and within 10 minutes we pull into a parking spot front and center at Ten Fifty-Five, snap the out front selfie and yes, head for the door.

Right inside the door we're face to face with Mr. Colin behind a short order bar welcoming us and asking what we're drinking. Out comes the HBT bidness card, a smile and a handshake and Colin gets busy pouring us a flight of Ten Fifty-Five's finest. They've been brewing for five years and have it going on because right behind us was an architectural rendering on an easel of the new Ten Fifty-Five which was under construction down on Congress which is a happening location. Gotta love the entrepreneurial spirit that makes this country great!!

With flight in hand we head to our left, pass a table with two older, bearded guys talking and playing cards.....gotta be a story there!! We sit at a hi-top, get comfy and Bing, Bang, Boom the Hoppin Brewery Tour strikes again, right here in sunny Tucson!

Jake and I get sipping and the first one is the Two Sons Citra - Imperial IPA (8.5%, 83 IBU) hello Mr. Hoppy, where you been hiding, citrus and tropic with a rich sweet backdrop, definitely a hop head special with a kick. Next we have Leap Pale Ale - American Pale Ale (5.4%, 58 IBU) flagship brew, grapefruit with floral pine goes great with a Sonoran hot dog, wood fired pizza or my favorite Chicken Mole. Sliding in third comes Brett's Brown Ale (5.6%, 48 IBU) smooth and rich with a very nice finish. Last but not least Coffee Stout (4.7%, 21 IBU) just like the name says, coffee and stout...top of the morning to ya!!

Now during all this sipping Jake and I obviously connected with George (retired Navy) and Tom (retired Air Force). They had just come from the shooting range where Tom was competing in the Senior Olympics in short range pistol......line'em up and shoot'em down! Two old guys, friends forever drinking good beer, listening to Buffalo Springfield vinyl and playing cards. They had some great stories! One was the Drone C-130 project that was top secret and then Tom pulls up on his phone a picture of very large shell casing that hit right outside the hanger back in the day and thank God it was a dud.....very cool picture. I could see Jake was getting a big kick out of these two and so was I.

These are just some of the benefits on the Hoppin Brewery Tour. You never know who you're gonna meet, what you're gonna drink or where you're gonna go! One of the truly great, Who, What, Where mysteries of our lifetime......only here, on the Hoppin Brewery Tour!!

Until next time and remember.........

Go get'cha one!!
