Experience before you go . . .

As we're pulling out of Ten Fifty-Five and driving down 44th St we drive right by Green Feet, a relatively new sign that's framed vinyl, we just have to pull in. Out front selfie, I tell Jake he looks like a lumber jack and we head for the door.

Owner Petey, retired Air Force is behind the bar grinning and asking "How we're doing"? I like this place already! Jake and I get comfy, I hand Petey a HBT card with a quick intro and bing, bang, boom Hoppin Brewery Tour strikes again. Petey's pouring us a flight, as I ask about the brewery name. Come to find out while in the Air Force, Petey was a helicopter pilot. And the green feet reference is when they'd land either in an air vac situation or dropping troops off which normally happened in a field, and once they were airborne again the helicopter would leave impressions that would look like feet......green feet. Now the cool part is these helicopter pilots are a close, tight knit little group and a lot of them got green feet tattoos. Now the distinguishing thing about these tattoos is not only the different locations on the body but some would have 9 toes, different colored feet, feet pointing different directions, all kinds of variations which would indicate when & where they served, how many of what they did....more or less a cryptic meaning only the pilots could understand....very, very cool!!! You go Petey!! So up pops Green Feet Brewery and I'm sure Petey has had his share of helicopter pilots who have stopped in for a cold one.

The first 4 oz sample on our flight was the On Target - IPA (7.9%, 75 IBU) lazy hazy with a tropical touch, very enjoyable. Coming up next was the Rendezvous Rye - Rye Pale Ale (6.5%, 49 IBU). Followed by FC Hefeweizen - American Wheat Beer (5.5%, 13 IBU) and bringing up the rear was the famous Troop Leader Cookie - Pale Ale (6.1%, 77 IBU) made with girls scout Samoa Cookies and I felt like asking for a glass of milk to go along with it.

Green Feet Brewing at the time of the tour was less then a year old. They had a good variety of brews and some interesting one offs. Petey is the real deal and it's as if you're in his own personal garage having a beer. The American flag is loud and proud, a section of foot lockers, there's board games, cards and Jinga and a heavy dose of down home hospitality that now a days is not automatic.

Petey, you knock one out of the park buddy! Thank you for your service and keep on brewing!!

Until next time and remember.........

Go get'cha one!!
