Experience before you go . . .

No, no way, never, won't happen, say it ain't so......these were my thoughts as my son Jake let me down lightly by telling me that I write too much blogging on the Hoppin Brewery Tour! What, write too much, I don't write to much! It takes a lot to change the mind of a hard headed baby boomer! "But Dad, people want to have a little something about the brewery, maybe a beer or two to try, something unique about the place and one or two things that stand out". "People want to have their own experience", my son said. So not wanting to be one of these grumpy, closed minded, retired old guys, I decided to scale it back a little, more pics, less words......kinda like the better taste and less filling mantra of the 70's & 80's. Quick read, less lead time between tours, more tours, more beer (I might like this), happier followers, maybe even more followers....who knows there might be a Hoppin Brewery Tour Revolution!! My wife and son just told me in unison, I'm rambling on about not rambling on....ugh!!!! So anyhow here's my first attempt.....wish me luck!!

Alright HBT peeps, if you haven't been to the West Loop, downtown Chicago, it's time to go. Not since Tour #25, Corridor Brewery, had Brad & Clyde been side by side drinking a beer....way too long for the gruesome twosome. Plus a workmate of Brad's, Joe (aka...J.O.C. - Joe Orange County & future contributor to the HBT) joined us for the festivities.

We met at Haymarket Pub & Brewery. Fabulous, dark heavy wood, mirrors, TV's and of course a lot of tappers. Bar to the right, restaurant seating to the left. The bar as always is like a magnet when you're on the HBT. This Brewery is thick with history, ask Mike, who's been there from the start, about the riots of 1886 (Mike is well preserved for his age)!

Brad orders a Yes Dear IPA - American (6.3%) brewed with dried sweet orange peels and hops and then dry hopped with fresh orange peels and more hops...come and get it. Mike poured me an IPA flight and for you IPA guys out there and something you gotta try is the The Sun Comes Up Tomorrow Coffee IPA - American (6.1%) hopped then dry hopped and then steeped in Ethiopian Sidama Guji coffee for 72 hours....IPA with a twist! J.O.C. ordered a flight of Belgian Brews and shared his flight drinking strategy which I'm sure he'll share with you from his HBT's of Orange County, California.

So in closing, he's closing, what's going on here!! Highly recommend Haymarket for its ambience, selection of brews, Mike behind the bar and all the experiences and memories you'll have after your enjoyable visit.

Until next time and remember.........

Go get'cha one!!
