Hoppin Brewery Tour #87 and I'm going to conduct a test! Am I writing these for my own mental health or are there actual people out there reading them and somewhat enjoying them? If so, email me at [c_shields "at" sbcglobal.net]. I know I'm not going to receive a Pulitzer Prize and my writing is a little unorthodox but I believe I've written enough to fill 500+ pages of a best selling romance novel and think a good name would be, "For the Love of Beer"! Writing is therapeutic for me and it's a lot less money then monthly therapy sessions. So if you get a kick out of these brewery escapades let me know and if there's something you want to see or don't want to see tell me. I might take your advice or I might not.....ain't retirement great! No more Bosses for me, well of course maybe my beautiful wife......happy wife, happy life!! Okay back to bizness!

There's a lot of craft beer being brewed across this beautiful country of ours. Somewhere north of 9000 breweries nationally and if we go internationally, well the number I'm sure is staggering. So as we travel there's always a brewery just around the corner and this next one was located in Woodruff, Wisconsin deep in the Northwoods. Rocky Reef is relatively new and it doesn't look like much from the outside but once you're in it has everything you need to sit, enjoy a brew and talk at the person next to you.....which is exactly what we did.

Visiting our buddy Clark on our annual trek north, we fished, we shot sniper rifles, we ate and of course we drank beer. So a tour of the Rocky Reef Brewery was on the list. Our son Jake was up north for the summer working as an Aquatics Director at a nearby Scout Camp so he joined us. "Walk right in, sit right down, daddy let your mind roll on", Rooftop Singers 1962......classic! Tori was on us with a smile and a welcome. Once she realized I wasn't trying to sell her something by handing her my HBT card, we were golden. Being my son's 6th Hoppin Brewery Tour we both got the beer flowing by ordering a couple Rocky Reef flights. Some of the standouts were the Muskybite - IPA (7.2%, 69 IBU) Simcoe and mosaic hops add to the bite, grapefruit and refreshing and The Big Red Hen - Amber (7.0%, 30 IBU) very tasty, toasty and enjoyable. We also tried the Just Wheat It - Blood Orange Wheat (5.9%, 24 IBU) and the Milk Mans Kid - Stout (7.1%). Refined and fun is what I taste and is the common element here at Rocky Reef. Opened in 2015 and from the taste of it the future looks bright.

Special guest of the night was Lance. Lance could easily be the Mayor because everyone know Lance. All around nice guy and if you need to buy something, get something fixed or have a question about anything Northwoods, Lance is your guy.

It was a fabulous Northwoods night, beers at Rocky Reef, burgers at PJ's Burger Barn and finishing the night with a bonfire on Little Musky Lake.....doesn't get any better than that!!

Until next time and remember.....

Go get'cha one!!!
